In March 2004, Tamra and Alan Erisman opened Cott’n Eyed Joe’s (CEJ’s) in an old brick building on Senator Russell Avenue across from Acworth City Hall. Constructed in 1848 as a feed and seed store, the building later served as a hardware store in the mid-1900s. The structure still retains the original façade and pine plank floor. When Cott’n Eyed Joe’s opened, it shared the first-level space with an antique shop.
Fresh ingredients, made-to-order dishes, and generous portions launched CEJ’s to quick success. True to its motto “First Time Strangers, Second Time Family,” the lunchtime eatery quickly became a favorite hangout for locals and visitors alike.
In October 2005, the restaurant underwent its first major transformation, changing its name to Cotton’s Restaurant and offering Acworth’s only dinner theater on Friday and Saturday nights. A four-course meal, linen tablecloths and napkins, and an upscale ambience made Dinner Theatre at Cotton’s an overnight success.
In January 2006, Cotton’s began another metamorphosis, this time to pursue Tamra’s longtime dream of having a Cotton Club reminiscent of the 1940s. Cotton’s took over the space formerly occupied by the antique shop, doubling the restaurant’s square footage. A redesigned interior has given the restaurant a more elegant appearance and atmosphere. Cotton’s then got its license to serve beer and wine.
Cotton’s celebrated its two-year anniversary on March 25, 2006, with an evening bash featuring live music and dancing. Cotton’s April 7 First Friday program introduced the restaurant’s new evening menu and launched its newest venture: live entertainment and dancing on weekend evenings.
Though the name and look of the restaurant have changed, the good food, the good fun, and the good times never do!
